Tom Ford's Spring/Summer Show

I posted THIS a while back re. Tom Ford's new collection. His covert show at fashion week blindsided the fash-pack and featured a kaleidoscope of glittering “world’s most inspirational women”, including as Lauren Hutton, Natalia Vodianova, Lou Doillon, Amber Valetta, Stella Tennant, Daphne Guinness, Beyonce and Julianne Moore - who didn't know what she was in for until she arrived in New York and was told she was hitting the runway! The guest list was scant and the only photographer present was Terry Richardson.

Welcome back, Mr Ford

Tom Ford's highly anticipated first Womenswear collection in 6 years has dropped! I love these beautiful shots by Steven Miesel featuring Mr Ford himself with favourites Karen Elson and Stella Tennant. That metallic pailette sequin jacket Stella is wearing is to die for - I'm on the lookout for a blingy blazer for Christmas.

American Vogue has the scoop with a super-luxe campaign shot by Steven Miesel (of course!) and featuring Karen Elson, Edita Vilkeviciute, Amber Valletta, Joan Smalls, Stella Tennant, Carolyn Murphy and Anja Rubik.
Tom Ford also appears on the cover of Vogue Paris in December with Daphne Groeneveld (top image), taken by my faves by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot. Mr Ford is also guest editor for this issue.
I LOVE Tom Ford's aesthetic - slinky, sexy, seventies cool. Well tailored, immaculately cut, beautiful pieces that more often than not hark back to the heady super-glam days of Studio 54. My favourites are the fitted long leopard print dress (on Amber Valetta), super-size leopard print suit and the Halston-style white suit -very Bianca Jagger. Also love the gun-metal grey backless dress and the electric blue dresses, which looks amazing on Karen Elson with her fiery red barnet. Great to see original Gucci gals Carolyn Murphy and Amber Valetta in the mix.

Things I'm loving in October

Things that I am loving in October, my birthday month! Tom Ford Private Blend Lipsticks. What's not to like about this picture? Tres Helmut Newton.
A Single Man. Yes I know I'm slow off the mark, but didn't manage to see it at the movies so finally rented it on DVD. Beautiful story that manages to capture the heart and the pathos and of the book, shot through the gorgeously luxe lens of Mr Tom Ford. Beautiful sets, clothes, and people - mise en scene to die for!
Robert Mapplethorpe. I just finished reading Just Kids and I cried. Robert was a beautiful talented angel with raggedy wings whose photographs draw you in to their endless inky pools of liquid black, which captures me in a way that Caravaggio's paintings with their striking use of chiaroscuro. You can get lost in that darkness.

Julianne Moore for Bulgari. Luxe-a-licious.
Stevie Nicks, and Fleetwood Mac. Having just watched the doco on the making of Rumours again, am totally entranced by the music, the harmonies and the raw emotion of the band during this time. And of course, Stevie is the quintessential rock chick. (Gee, she looks like Rachel Zoe here!)

Tom Ford's film debut - 'A Single Man'

Desperate to see this Film, Tom Ford's debut into cinema!!! Spent the last 5 months trying to download it. I can only imagine how utterly beautiful the film will be, especially the cinematography & mise en scène. As well as Mr Ford being made by one of my style icons, the simple promo pic of a louche-looking Julianne Moore with that amazing titian coiffure draped alongside Colin Firth have totally seduced me.

Based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood, A Single Man follows a day in the life of George, who is contemplating ending his life after losing his partner in a car-crash. It played last week at The Academy for the World Cinema Showcase but I couldn't make it - so May 6th it is!

Quote of the week: Bill Nighy

A couple of years ago, the brother in Manhattan very kindly treated me and Mr That's Not My Age to tickets to The Vertical Hour on Broadway, starring Bill Nighy, 59, and Julianne Moore, 48. Yes, yes we are too glamorous, I know! Seeing both actors close-up was beyond exciting - and if the play hadn't been so trite, I might have fainted in ecstasy. As you'd expect, Nighy was brilliant, Moore was gorgeous and David Hare was over-rated.

Anyhow, enough of the showing off, my quote of the week is Bill Nighy explaining to The Guardian why he doesn't do Shakespeare:

'The absence of classical work in my repertoire is due to the fact that I can't wear those trousers,' he says. 'It makes me sound very shallow but I've done some really serious plays in a decent lounge suit.'

Funny and stylish, don't you just love him?
