Victoria Beckham's designs

Victoria Beckham (my favourite Spice Girl) really does sound like she knows what she's doing when it comes to design. and the proof is in the pudding (whuich I wish she'd eat more of - so cute by sooo thin!) I adore her aesthetic - fitted, sexy dresses tailored to a women's body. Apparently VB uses Roland Mouret (he of the iconic Galaxy dress) pattern-makers, hence the immaculately structured designs.

Excerpt from Harper's Bazaar interview, when the writer sits down to view Victoria's collection:

"Downstairs, in the lobby, a gaggle of journalists gathers, pens poised, expressions of thinly veiled sarcasm hovering on their lips. As it turns out, hatchets are not required. The collection is, as everyone who sees it later attests, remarkable — just 10 styles, some in different colourways, inspired by ’40s and ’50s underwear. A peek at their internal construction reveals a miracle of corsetry and hidden grosgrain waistbands, as immaculately executed as the beautifully panelled (and very flattering) exteriors. Beckham, looking nervous and elegant, a latter-day Audrey Hepburn with her new gamine hairstyle and a bow-tie day dress (look four) that reaches just below the knee, carefully explains each look … Every dress in the collection can be worn with a bra … the metal-toothed rose-gold zips that snake down the back of each creation can be opened both ways for added allure … each dress looks as good as it can from every angle, not just the front (something you learn after being photographed endlessly) … Looking back at my New York notebook from that season, I see I filed my report about the collection under the headline “The revelation”. "

"For a woman largely perceived as the dictionary definition of high maintenance, Victoria looks rather at ease. After all, she has earned the approbation of a tough crowd, the fashion industry. Marc Jacobs is on his way over for lunch, and her week is packed with visits from Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, stylist Katie Grand, and photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott."

"I really had to prove myself, though," admits Victoria. "But now I feel like I am competing in an arena where I belong." In fact, her new dress line has been well received by fashion critics, many of whom were surprised to see Victoria at the press appointments, personally explaining corsetry, belting, and boning. "I was so nervous," she remembers, "because this has been a lifetime in the making."
